SOUL TRACERS at Gallery Neptune portrays the simple black line in two different mediums.
Mark "WIREMAN" Coburn has been sculpting in wire for over 30 years. His black wire portraits are made from 16 gauge tie wire used in rebar construction and smaller gauge wires for detail. This deceptively simple medium is transformed into intricate twists and wiggly lines that eventually take on the formal appearance of a person or animal. The work reveals a great deal about the artist's direct, honest reaction to the subjects he portrays. In addition to visual art, Wireman is a poet and musician, having performed extensively in the mid Atlantic region. The gallery is pleased to present a poetry reading with Wireman, joined by Jamie Wilson on percussion and Ralph Reinoldi on guitar, July 21st at 8 PM.
In a collection of new paintings on canvas, Elyse Harrison presents primitive figures in black outline set against textile like backgrounds. The collection offers the figure as a casual observer of the daily cycle of life. Small gestures, simple signals.
