Gallery Neptune welcomes John Aquilino back for his third solo exhibition featuring brand new urban landscapes. With a masterful eye for color and composition, Aquilino continues his documentation of cities along the eastern seaboard. In addition to fourteen new oil paintings, the exhibit also includes eight intimate gouache paintings on paper. These smaller paintings are classic Aquilino in miniature; elegant and equally pristine as the larger oils.
The new collection features two paintings of Ocean City, Maryland offering pastel, sun drenched views of our neighboring beach town. This pastel palette also appears in new work of Baltimore with perspectives that add more intimacy through closer views of windows and rooftops. The sky is barely mentioned - instead Aquilino forces our view to the dozens of geometric forms in the city that layer and combine, forming a quilt of concrete, metal, brick and glass. A vertical maze of walls and angles that start and stop through shadow and light - this is the underlying rhythm of beauty which John Aquilino will once again share in Gallery Neptune's own alluring, urban landscape.
